Beginner Guitar Chords

If you’re just starting out on guitar, these eight chords,  C, A, G, E, D, Am, Em, and Dm, are where it all begins. They’re called “open chords” because they use a mix of open strings and fretted notes, giving them a rich, ringing sound that’s easy on the hands.

Once you can switch smoothly between these shapes, you’ll be able to play hundreds of songs. They’ll also build your finger strength, coordination, and rhythm—everything you need to sound like a real guitarist.
